venal soda configurations

by Peter J. Dellolio

Venal soda configurations
begged the children
for a blueprint
or some other indexical manifestation
of salty sea rocks
sitting in the back of the Drive-In
and critiquing Newton’s theories
while on the screen
Karloff says
You stay…We belong dead!
then the projector turned into a fish tank
and
someone assassinated the pears pulverized
into robust radioactive cream
a
luxurious help attic summoned me so I
was unable to enjoy it but
next time I will bring extra dessert menus
along with incense to block the stench of
decomposing gladiators

frozen musicians
rhumba instructors
banjo tormentors and other
assorted examples of
condemned prisoner behavior especially
regarding
last meal

How I Yearn to Leave This World

by John Grey

Of red dust once and for all
Like Laozi, riding on the bare hairy back
Of a water buffalo, as it plods along with as
Much leisure as self-expectancy, through
My Hangu Pass by myself to a distant
Locale in the west, where no humans
                               would know
If I’m about to demise or become a God

Heteronyms: A Geo-Linguacultural Poem

by Yuan Changming

Got no idea about how many han characters are shared among Chinese, Koreans and Japanese? Me either, but according to an online source, there are as many as 808, a really lucky number for people all over the greater China, though meaningless to both the island and the peninsular nations. Among them many have different meanings; for example:

han characters     in Chinese               in Korean              in Japanese
放心 /fangxin/ rest assured              confused            un-concentrated
迷惑 /mihuo/           perplexed              perplexed              bothering
饭店 /fandian/          hotel               Chinese restaurant       Chinese restaurant
工夫 /gongfu/ effort                 study             methods
打算 /dasuan/ plan                  calculating         calculating

Now you know why they’ve been fighting so constantly both in language and reality
